Abstract
The Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) approach is an urban planning strategy that focuses on developing urban areas around public transportation stations. The main objective of this approach is to reduce reliance on private cars, increase the use of public transportation, improve the quality of urban life, and enhance environmental sustainability. By improving access to services and economic opportunities, TOD contributes to the development of sustainable communities and helps address challenges related to rapid urbanization. The present study employs bibliometric methods and software tools to analyze 72 Persian scientific articles published in the field of Transit Oriented Development approach. The knowledge structure of this domain is examined in four dimensions: authors and collaboration networks, institutional affiliations, key journals, and the conceptual foundations of TOD. Using co-occurrence keyword networks with Vosviewer and applying word cloud analysis, conceptual mapping, and topic trend analysis with Bibliometrix package in R software, the study provides a comprehensive evaluation of research patterns in Iran. The findings reveal that research trends on Transit Oriented Development in Iran generally follow global patterns in terms of timing, but the maturity of these discussions has been delayed. Moreover, most studies focus on large metropolitan areas and on traditional or site-specific issues. Important aspects such as social equity and the health impacts of implementing TOD have rarely been addressed. Similarly, the use of innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence for modeling the effects of TOD, is almost absent in the Persian literature. This indicates that while the TOD concept has gained increasing attention in Iran, the scope of research remains limited and fragmented. Therefore, this study highlights the necessity of broader, more diverse, and interdisciplinary approaches to TOD research in order to guide effective policymaking, foster innovation, and align Iranian urban planning practices with international experiences in sustainable transportation and development
