Identity crisis as one of the consequences of globalization is so clear in society especially in new cities. The crisis is one of the obstacles that impede attracting the population to the dead cities. The cities can be considered at best dormitories that are not able to arouse the sense belonging and identity in its citizens. This problem can be traced back to the basic principles of designing the cities, among of which are the formation of separate maps and paying attention to the historical and climatic features of the environment as well as socio-cultural and economic conditions of people who want to live in the cities. We may create and strengthen the sense of belonging to a place or city through creating spatial and identity characteristics. Accordingly, this study aimed to analyze various dimensions of urban identity and their impacts on the sense of belonging among the citizens of Sepahanshahr. The questions answered in this study are: What indicators are effective in giving identity to a new town? To what extent do the indicators impact upon citizens’ sense of belonging? The descriptive-analytical research used questionnaire to collect the data. Moreover, Amos Graphic software was used for analyzing the data. The results showed that the social and functional indicators with a load factor of 0.683 and 0.430, respectively, directly affected the sense of belonging of citizens of Sepahanshahr and the natural-environmental indicator with a load factor of 0.386 affected the functional indicator. Moreover, the physical-spatial and historical-cultural indicators with load factors of 0.256 and 0.232, respectively, affected the social variable and then the sense of belonging of the citizens.
