Despite having potential spatial characteristics conducive to pedestrianization, such as finely-grained street networks and the proximity of diverse uses, the historical contexts in Iranian cities have encountered structural breaks and obvious limitations in accessibility due to interventions resulting from modernization and the evolution of urban ecological needs. The present study, by adopting an analytical and integrated approach based on the principles of spatial syntax theory, urban morphology knowledge, and specialized studies in the field of walkability, was conducted to analyze the spatial configuration and evaluate the efficiency of the pedestrian network in three traditional and historically identified neighborhoods of Tabriz, Shtarban (Davachi), Sorkhab, and Sheshgolan. The methodological approach of this study includes a considered combination of spatial configuration measures (including integration, connectivity, and spatial depth indicators) with a network-based analysis of access to vital urban services, which aims to evaluate the structure and performance of pedestrian systems in these contexts. The findings of this analysis reveal clear and significant differences in the level of spatial coherence and accessibility among the studied neighborhoods: Sheshgolan neighborhood, with its high levels of spatial integration and functional continuity, exhibits a coherent and integrated structure; while Dohchi neighborhood experiences an unfavorable situation due to its exposure to numerous spatial discontinuities, low levels of structural intelligibility, and tangible limitations in access to urban services. Sorkhab neighborhood also depicts an intermediate situation with relatively balanced coherence in its spatial structure. Beyond the scope of empirical analysis, this research, by presenting contextual intervention solutions based on a deep understanding of the cultural characteristics of these contexts, including suggestions such as targeted reconnection of disjointed routes and equitable redistribution of urban services, outlines new horizons for improving the quality of pedestrian movement without harming the authenticity and historical identity of these neighborhoods.
